Mexico Opens New Casino

The Mexican city of Tijuana in Mexico is celebrating the opening of the brand new Casino Caliente, which has already started to operate and is supposed to become one of the favorite touristy spots of the region, which is the largest city in the state of Baja California and borders with the American city of San Diego in California.

25 million dollars has been the initial amount of money invested in the opening of the Casino Caliente but a lot more money is expected to be spent.

Top companies team up to build casinos

Star Cruises and Alliance Global Group signed this week an agreement to build hotels and casinos in the Philippines. The companies will invest approximately $1 billion on several projects to increase their presence in the Asian continent and the profitable gaming market.

A spokesperson for Star Cruises said that, as part of the contract, the company will purchase a unit of Alliance named Travelers International Hotel Group Inc. This unit is about to obtain a gaming license to develop hotels and gambling complexes in the Philippines’ Newport City, near Manila’s airport.

European casinos launch prepaid card

TransSend and Intercash, two companies dedicated to provide payment solutions, have announced this week that they will launch a prepaid card that will provide important benefits for gambling operators as well as for gamblers and that could be used to place bets at the casinos which operate in the Old Continent.

The card, which is a MasterCard product, will allow its users to take away money from a million of ATMs around the world, make payments in more than 24 million authorized points or use it to make online transactions.

Thai government to open five casinos

In an attempt to increase the number of tourists that visit the country, Tahiland’s government has announced the construction of the first five legal casinos. Prime Minister Sundaravej said in a statement that last year 13 million tourists chose Thailand as their holiday destination.

“Thai citizens who wish to gamble will be able to do so and in this way the Police will focus on other matters instead of fighting against illegal gambling,” Samak explained. The Prime Minister also said that all the money collected as entrance fees would be given to different charities that work in the country.

Harrah’s to build casino in Spain

The opening date for the new Resort & Casino that Harrah's Entertainment is planning to build up in Ciudad Real is projected for the year 2010. It is estimated that this ambitious project, which the American company is planning to build at the residential and entertainment complex of Reino Don Quijote, will attract almost 2 million visitors a year.

The total surface of the complex covers 6.8 million square feet. The hotel, with more that 800 rooms, will have a 5 star category.

Stanley Ho to open a new casino

This week, a spokesperson for the Sociedade de Jogos de Macau announced the company, together with Macau Success, would inaugurate a new casino in the former Portuguese colony on 1 February. The gambling venue, called Puente 16, will be the nineteenth casino owned by Asian tycoon Stanley Ho.

The complex will be located in Puerto Interior, and will have 107 gaming tables and about 300 slot machines. Besides, Puente 16 will offer to its visitors several shopping malls, restaurants, bars, a convention center, exhibition stands and entertainment zones.

A top model’s casino

British top model Naomi Campbell recently traveled to Kenya, a place that fascinated the model and for that reason she has decided to open a luxurious casino on the country’s coast. Her plans have not been well received by Kenyans and animal protection organizations, since the construction of such a building would be risky for the turtles that live there.

Campbell and her ex-boyfriend Flavio Briatore have already submitted a request to start the construction of the “Millionaire’s Hotel”. The casino and its six-star hotel, to be situated in Maldini, would only accommodate rich guests.

Seoul to expand casino business

In an attempt to attract more international visitors to the country, city authorities in Seoul, South Korea, are contemplating the idea of allowing more foreigner-only casinos. However, they will have to wait for the central government to approve the plan and also face public opposition.

“It's still in the initial stage,” a city official explained. “We have been considering what are the proper measures to expand the business. Many other international cities such as Hong Kong and Singapore have already been establishing casinos for foreign tourists. We will lose our competitiveness in tourism unless we take proper steps.”

New casino school to open in the UK

Midland’s first casino school is expected to open next month at North Warwickshire and Hinckley College’s Bermuda Park Innovation Center in Nuneaton. According to organizers, the gaming academy will represent important job opportunities for community members who wish to be part of the gambling world.

On October 3, the academy will hold an open day in order to present its courses and provide more information about its syllabus to potential students who want to become croupiers. ‘Defiance’, is the name of the movie, which will be directed by the director of Blood Diamond, and it will tell the story of Jewish partisans who fought the Nazis from the forests of Belarus. This film is based on true events, something that cannot be said about Casino Royale, concerning a community of escaped Jews who established a remarkably sophisticated society hidden among the trees while avoiding the German forces.
