Las Vegas based Eighth Wonder has included Brazilian soccer star Pele in its team, hoping that this move will help them obtain Singapore’s second casino license. A 5,000-seat stadium named after Pele will be part of Harry’s Island gaming and leisure resort if Eighth Wonders wins the bidding.
The soccer star will also be in charge of the Pele Sports Academy that will promote youth participation in sports. “Pele will become Harry's Island ambassador for goodwill, sportsmanship and the pursuit of excellence," a spokesperson for the company said.
Pele said he agreed to join the proposal because of the emphasis the company put on the sports facility. “I think everybody knows sports is my life. Sports opened a lot of doors in my life," Pele said. "To me, this is something unique.”
Eighth Wonder’s project is based on a fictional adventurer and explorer called Harry. The company has said that it will invest up to 3.5 billion dollars in the complex if it wins the bidding.
